Coronavirus and Meetings
UPDATED – 3/20/20 1:15 PM
Dear fellows,
As concerns about the spread of Coronavirus rise, SLAA members are trying to find a balance between prioritizing our recovery and protecting our health.
This letter offers suggestions for both limiting the risk of contracting and spreading Coronavirus at SLAA meetings. Also, there is a list below of meetings that have been temporarily cancelled or changed.
SLAA meetings are an essential and vital part of our recovery. While it is important for us to attend meetings, it is also important to protect our own health and the health of our fellows. Intergroup encourages each group that continues to offer in-person meetings to discuss the topic of preventing the spread of Coronavirus. Here are some specific suggestions for limiting the spread of this disease at meetings:
Read and discuss these prevention guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control.
Have a bottle of hand sanitizer at the meeting entrance
Encourage members to wash hands before meetings begin
Refrain from holding hands during prayers
Set up chairs with extra space between each member
Avoid passing items from person to person, such as binders, chips/medallions, and the 7th Tradition basket
Ask members to stay home if experiencing any of these symptoms:
Fever
Sore throat
Cough
Shortness of breath
Runny nose
The Greater Chicago/Milwaukee SLAA Intergroup meeting list has been updated to reflect changes in meetings, and will continue to be updated with new information. This includes cancelled meetings as well as meetings that offer a way to attend remotely via phone or online. If your meeting has been cancelled or changed, please let Intergroup know right away. We can be contacted via mailroom@slaachicago.org or by clicking the button below.
If you have concerns about attending in-person meetings, there is an option to attend SLAA phone meetings.
We thank you for continuing to carry the message of recovery to our fellowship and newcomers while taking action to protect the health of all members.
Yours in service,
The Greater Chicago/Milwaukee SLAA Intergroup
